When you look at your budget, what does it reveal about your priorities? Does it reflect a life centered on faith and stewardship, or does it lean more toward personal security and comfort? Brian Holtz, CEO of Compass Financial Ministry, challenges us to rethink our financial choices through a biblical lens, urging us to ask…

What if your budget reflected God’s values instead of your own?

The Bible makes it clear that everything we have belongs to God. Psalm 24:1 reminds us, “The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it.” With this truth in mind, our financial decisions should align with His will, not just our personal desires.

Brian emphasizes that money is a tool for Kingdom impact rather than personal gain. God blesses us with resources not for our comfort but for His purpose. When we shift our perspective to see money as a means of serving His Kingdom, then we will notice that our financial decisions will begin to change in alignment.

Practical Steps to Align Your Budget with Faith

Reevaluate Your Spending Habits

Look at where your money goes each month. Are you investing in things that align with your faith? Are you prioritizing generosity, tithing, and giving to causes that advance God’s work?

Have you tried Janie Olivers Bullseye methodology to investing your money?

Adjust Your Budget to Reflect Kingdom Principles

Rather than letting culture dictate your financial goals, allow Scripture to guide your spending. Consider allocating a portion of your income toward supporting ministries and missions. Additionally, you can reduce unnecessary expenses to create more space for generosity and giving. And, here’s a big one. Are you investing in ethical and faith-driven businesses that contribute to change in a positive way?

Embrace Financial Discipleship

Compass Financial Ministry outlines five key pillars of financial discipleship:

  • Ownership: Recognizing that everything belongs to God.
  • Surrender: Trusting Him with your financial future.
  • Choice: Making intentional, faith-based financial decisions.
  • Multiplication: Using resources to expand the Kingdom.
  • Eternal Focus: Prioritizing eternal impact over temporary wealth.

I encourage you to try this out and see how God rewards you for consciously being a good steward of the blessing that he has given you.

That is what I think this is about. This is more than just input and output, but the cognizant understanding that what we do with what we have makes an impact and has value. As Christians, why would we not want to do all we can, when we can, to glorify God. How we disperse the blessing of our own finances is a great way to do that!

Are You Holding On or Letting Go?

At the heart of financial stewardship is a simple but profound question: Are you holding on tightly to what you think is yours, or are you surrendering your resources to God’s greater plan?

When we choose to trust Him with our finances, we invite Him to do immeasurably more than we could ever imagine.

If you’re ready to take the next step, ask: God, what would You have me do with Your money? The answer might just transform your life.
