One of the biggest mistakes entrepreneurs make when starting their businesses—and a mistake I made myself—is focusing so much on serving others that we neglect the business side. We are so passionate about helping people through our product or service that we don’t take the necessary time to consider financials, marketing, and other critical business elements. On the other hand, when we realize this mistake, we often swing too far in the other direction, focusing solely on the numbers and losing sight of the mission that led us to start our business in the first place.

But here’s the truth: It’s not about choosing between ministry and business. It’s about integrating both.

I was in the same position. I poured everything into my service, neglecting the foundational aspects of my business. Then, when financial pressures hit, I overcorrected, turning my entire focus to business metrics and nearly losing my sense of purpose in the process. That’s when I had to pause, reflect, and ask: If God gave me this vision, how do I structure it to honor Him while allowing my business to thrive?

That’s how I developed the G.R.A.S.P. Faith Framework, a method for balancing faith and business principles while keeping God at the center of my decisions.

The G.R.A.S.P. Faith Framework

Gather Information: One of the biggest mistakes I made in business was acting too quickly without gathering enough information. Whether you’re choosing a business partner, investing in a new opportunity, or considering where to donate your money, take time to research. Read reviews, visit websites, and ask essential questions. Even large investors and donors do extensive due diligence before making financial decisions—we should do the same in our businesses.

Reflect on the Situation: Once you have gathered information, don’t rush to a decision. Slow down and reflect. Ask yourself: What is this data telling me? Is this in alignment with my values and goals? Too often, we allow urgency to drive our choices instead of giving ourselves the time and space to interpret what we’ve learned. Taking the time to pause and reflect ensures we make biblically grounded and well-thought-out decisions.

Ask God for Guidance: Faith should be an active part of our decision-making process. Before you finalize any major move, pause to pray, fast, and seek wisdom from scripture. Almost anywhere you look in the Bible, a Biblcal character has faced a difficult decision. What is scripture telling us about their experiences and decision-making processes? When we seek God first, we gain clarity, discernment, and, even better, peace about our next steps.

Strategize Wisely: Once you have sought God’s guidance, it’s time to develop a clear strategy. This is where wisdom and counsel come in. One of my biggest mistakes was making decisions in isolation. I learned the importance of seeking mentorship, surrounding myself with wise business advisors, and ensuring my plan aligned with God’s direction. Strategic planning ensures your business is positioned for long-term success while staying true to its purpose.

Proceed Forward: Taking action in faith does not mean the journey will be easy or free of challenges. It does mean stepping forward with confidence, knowing you have done your due diligence. God does not require perfection, but He does require obedience and diligence. When we move forward in faith, we trust that He will guide and sustain us. Keep moving forward, and don’t look back!

Why Faith Matters in Business

For too long, we have been told that faith and ambition don’t mix and that business success must be separate from our spiritual walk. But this could not be further from the truth. Faith is not a liability in leadership—it is our greatest strength. It gives us clarity, endurance, and the ability to navigate challenges with wisdom.

In my journey, I’ve also seen how faith plays a role in securing resources. Investors and donors are not just looking for strong business plans; they want to see integrity, purpose, and alignment with values. Many of them pray over their investments, ensuring they are planting seeds in good soil. So, the more we integrate faith into our business practices, the more we position ourselves to attract the right opportunities and partnerships.

I get it; building a business while keeping your ministry heart intact is not an overnight process. It requires patience, discipline, and a willingness to trust God at every step. The G.R.A.S.P. Faith Framework helps structure this journey so that we can make informed, spirit-led decisions while building sustainable, impactful businesses.

As you proceed forward in faith, remember: Your business is more than just a way to make money. It is a platform to serve, to impact lives, and to glorify God. Stay anchored in your faith, seek wisdom, and trust that your work is part of a greater purpose.
